Winter 2001-2 Report (Well, November 2001 - May 2002 actually! It was a pretty crummy spring.)
FUEL TANK
When the car came off the road for the winter, the main priority was to make and fit a new sensible-size fuel tank. The making of the replacement tank is explained on the Build page.
SUMP
This was dangerously close to the ground and had the potential to clobber anything more than a minor lump in the road. 40mm seemed to be the generally recognise depth that can be taken out of the sump - so off came the sump and off came 40mm. The Robin Hood Owners Club site recommends welding substitute oil capacity on the side of the remainder of the sump. This looked a bit complicated to me (and I though that it would simply provide an area of stagnant oil) - so I opted for additional capacity at the front of the sump (where it would be above the deepest part of the sump and provide oil that would be in circulation. I forgot to take photos while the work was in progress, but there will be one here, of the sump back in the car, when I get round to taking one.
Windscreen
Progress - a windscreen! A daunting thought at first, but I took a trip to see Bob Graham in February to look at his screen and tap his brain. Bit the bullet: made up a template, made the frame bending tool, bought metal for the supports and alloy channel for the surround and had laminated glass cut to size. Hey Presto - a screen. What was all the apprehension about?
Well, it wasn't quite as easy as that,ie I needed wipers/heater/screenwash too. More of that to follow on the Build page, when I get round to writing it up.
